March Month 20
This winter, I have had my hair in protective styles 98% of the time. It just has been easier to keep it twisted or in box braids. I lasted 6 weeks in the box braids and then I could not stand it any longer. Yay, I lasted 6 weeks, I was so proud of myself until I took them out today and noticed some split ends in the shed hair. Yes, I examine my shed hair. lol.
It took forever to take those braids down, wash, condition and detangle, and then twist it in big twists. My ends felt bad eventhough I just had them clipped at a salon 4 weeks ago. I don't know how good of a job she did because she cut them while I was still in box braids. I guess not too good of a job since there were still some split ends left. Right? That was a waste of $16. Now I know better. So I took the scissors out and got scissor happy again. I hope I did the right thing, length over health that is the question. Well, right now I want both. haha. I was so happy with how much my hair grew while in the box braids, but I think I ended up cutting off all of the growth today plus some. I wonder how you stop them because while in braids, I moisturized daily and sealed w/ oil, and co-washed once a week. Oh well, you live and you learn.

It feel like all my hard work w/ protective styling has been in vain because of these split ends keep popping up. I have also noticed something else really weird and it scares me b/c I have never seen it before, but then again a few weeks ago was the first time I had ever seen what split ends look like, too. OK here is what scares me. I noticed on some of the individual strands of shed hair that it has some "bubbles". If I stretch the hair out, most of it is straight, but then at some point one part leaves the bottom strand and forms a little hill, then comes back onto the original strand. It is not a typical split end b/c this is not on the ends, it is in the middle of the strand and it rejoins the original strand. Most of my ends look fine. Do you have any idea what this could be? And if so, what do I need to do if anything to fix it? I clipped my ends again today. I use a leave-in conditioner and moisturizer daily and seal w/ an oil. I have not straightened my hair yet, but I have blow dried it three times since going natural. I have also colored my hair 3 times with the Bejin Oriental Black to cover my gray hair, but not my whole head. Any suggestions or answers are greatly appreciated.

This month I want to try the Baking Soda Treatment. Have any of you tried it? What did you think. I also plan on giving the Bentonite Clay another try. Someone told me to add honey this time, 'cause last time it made my hair hard.

Straightened my hair for a thorough trim and I hated it! I had I feeling I would not like it, because two weeks earlier I took the girls to get their hair straightened and trimmed. I was supposed to get mine done too at the time, but I looked at their hair all nice, shiny and straight and I did not like it and did not want to look like that any more. So I chickened out and decided to wait. That is I was going to wait for about 6 more months, but then I say some more of those nasty split ends and then I had to give in and get mine straightened and clipped really good.

5 March- 1/2-1inch trim (Walmart salon)
19 March- 1-2in trim (me)
2 Apr- straightened and then 1/2-1in cut

I am done with the scissors. Put then away. I do not want to see them again for atleast 6 months. I hope whatever was going on with my hair is cut off and in the trash never to recycle again. lol.

Tried the baking soda txt. My hair looked longer but extra curly at the same time. It felt really soft, but by the next day it was really hard. I don't believe I rinsed it out enough. Will try it again another time. To make sure it was not user error. haha.

Now I am in box braids for another 6 weeks. We will see if I make it there like last time. Probably not. haha

Nov, Dec, Jan
OK this is the third time that I have tried to type this description and each time is looks like it is loaded and then it disappears. I have gotten pretty frustrated right about now. So this description won't be as nice and witty as the first two. lol. Here we go again, hopefully for the last and final time.

The first few pictures you see are from our week long trip to Hawaii. We went there to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We left the kids with Granny and Paw Paw. We did every kind of adventure I could think of from going to a luau, parasailing, snorkeling, skiing, swimming, hiking several miles to see a waterfall b/c I had never seen one up close and personal, haha. We even rented a convertible for a day to drive around the island. I wanted to make sure I did not miss anything. This was my first trip to Hawaii and I planned to enjoy it thoroughly. haha. Well it was awesome, absolutely beautiful.

As soon as I got back home, I had to hit the ground running, because it was both the girls birthdays and Thanksgiving with plenty of family coming to visit. I decided to have an African fashion show, to include hair, makeup and nails, followed by them modeling and strolling down the runway for us. They had a wonderful time. We had about 80 people present for Thanksgiving. We even had a Talent show which family members were going for each other throats to win the money and trophies for the best performances. We had to divide it up into age groups, so the older ones were not beating up on the children to win a little cash. Hilarious! It was wonderful, but I was so glad when everyone went back to their own homes. lol. Now I have settled back down to enjoy the New Year. I hope you like the photos.

There are not that many hair photos this go around, b/c it has mostly been protective boring styles this winter, but I will do better in the future. haha!

Ten Year Wedding Anniversary and Family Pics
We are coming up on our 10 yr wedding anniversary in two weeks. My hubby came up with the bright idea to send out pics to all of our wedding attendees to show them that we are still together and blissfully (lol) happy ten years later. Although our anniversary is not until November 6th, we will be leaving on the 3rd going to Honolulu for a week. I decided we should take some laid-back, out doorsey type pics to help celebrate this occasion adn send it out to everybody before we leave. All we wanted to do was have a cute shot with just the two of us and then a nice family photo, but we could not get a cute family photo to save our lives. lol. Also that sun was really shining in our eyes, hence the squinty, frowny faces. lol. So here are the results. I hope you enjoy.
