My New Car: 2004 Mazda 3 Sportwagon
(Oct 31, 2008)
I picked up my new wheels on Halloween and drove it home from Door County on a beautiful fall day. I love this car!! I also included a few pics from the web that I liked too.

April 17, 2009: My baby now has new summer rolling stock! I stayed with the stock 17 inch size but upgraded to Kazera KZ-D rims on Cooper Zeon 2XS directional rubber.

June 2010: I want to improve the looks of the stock (winter) wheels as a few salty Wisconsin winters have made them pretty grungy and is making the paint flake off. I'm looking into having them stripped and powdercoated. I'll see what it'll cost me. If it's too much, I may just leave them as is. Wish me luck!

I've also been planning to paint the brake calipers red and would love to have the paint accented by some red pinstripes as well. We'll see if this gets done this year!

Update: July 9, 2010:
I got the brake calipers painted red and they look pretty good! Now, to see about some paint TLC and maybe some simple striping!

Update: Late Summer 2011: I had my stock five-spoke wheels stripped and powder-coated last fall and they survived the winter nicely. It now has just over 41,000 miles on it since I purchased it back on Halloween 2008. No changes or additions are planned except for perhaps a couple small graphics and I'm also looking into some eyebrows for the headlights and perhaps some new floor mats.

Monthly Model Pictures
These aren't really organized, perhaps only by date taken, but they should give you a good example of what our guys can do. Enjoy your visit!

Mother's Day/Ben's Ensemble Concert
Sunday was a gorgeous day with plenty of sunshine and both sets of parents came over to our house, where we went over to Music U, which is where Ben has his guitar lessons with his teacher, Dennis Panneck. We got to listen to seven different bands play live for a packed audience. Ben's band is called "Pink Man Bear Pig" and they did two Metallica songs, "Fade To Black" and "Wherever I May Roam". Both sounded good and Ben got to play the intro for "Roam" - pretty cool! Overall, a very cool and entertaining time. Even the grandparents thought it was kinda interesting. Afterwards we came back to our house for an hour or so and relaxed, had something to drink, and chit-chatted. We then drove over to Grazie's Italian restaurant and had a delicious meal and a real nice time. I think Cheryl and our moms had a really nice Mother's Day!

Driveway Removal, Repour & Landscaping
(Jul 18, 2011)
After dealing with renters next door who "shared" the driveway with us, the current renters have prompted us to pull up our half of the driveway and relay it on the other side of the house. The edges of the concrete will be backfilled, the front third of the backyard will be raised to reduce the amount of flooding in the spring, grass will be planted, and we are buying a shed to store our lawn and garden tools and equipment, to give us more room in the garage. We also are planning a garden in the area of the old driveway with hedges, shrubs, flowering plants, ornamental grasses and a meandering stone path. Possibly a bird bath and feeders as well. Can't wait to see it finished!

Update: May 2012: It's been a slow spring but look at the beautiful greenery! It's looking very nice so far this year with flowering trees, shrubs and flowers adding plenty of beauty to our little neck of the woods. One new addition that will be coming soon is a fence along the edge of the garden to prevent the neighbors from walking on the garden area when they get in/out of their van. This will likely force them to move over into the lawn in order to park where they presently do. Ever since we removed the driveway they don't park at the back of the house but alongside the front yard. By putting in a permanent ornamental fence there hopefully it will add that extra measure of safety and security to our little garden.

1960 Bonneville Coupe by Trumpeter
(May 9, 2012)
I grabbed this one off the shelf and started it on a whim. It'll be mostly stock with a few custom touches. Wish me luck!

CF-104 - Project Red
This one will be built in Canadian Air Force markings on an all-red plane for a model club group build theme of "red".

Update: 5-08-12: Completion! After one poor painting attempt, I stripped it and redid the paint. I applied the Leading Edge decals very carefully, using plenty of decal setting solution, which really made them snuggle down into all the surface and rivet detail, making the markings almost look like they were painted on. Overall I am happy with the build and had enough fun building it that I want to do more. Apparently other people liked it as well because I was awarded a third place in the 1/48 jet category at the Mad City Modelers contest on 5-5-12. Thanks for following along with this project and I hope you enjoy the pics!

Mad City Modelers IPMS Show/Swap
Several members of our club drove down to Cottage Grove for the Mad City Modelers IPMS contest and swap meet. The attendance was way down and the number of models was quite a bit lower in most categories, compared with last year. In addition the swap area was very small with only a handful of vendors as well. On the positive side, we had a good showing by our club guys. Of four entering the contest, all four came away with at least one award. Check out the pictures and enjoy the variety of subjects!

1962 Tempest 2DR Sedan
(Aug 7, 2005)
This poor forlorn car was obtained on ebay for, get this: $1.50! Yes, the cut roof must've scared away everyone 'cuz I think I was the only bidder! My plans are to restore it using the roof from the recent '63 Tempest drag car from Model King. The interior and chassis are in nice shape, as is the rest of the body, plus I just got a mint, unbuilt Indy 4 engine to power it. Wish me luck!

Update: April 24. 2012:
I've radically changed the direction I was going in with this car. I've decided to make it a custom convertible by replacing the the top of the car with parts from a late 90's Mustang ragtop. It's coming along nicely for only having worked on it two days so far. Let me know what you think!
