A lot has happened with my hair since my last update....as you can see I decided to comb out my locs. I didn't take any pictures of the process because that was the last thing on my mind. The locs lasted 3 months, which is longer than my first attempt, but not really a good attempt at all. After combining some of them, I wasn't happy with the size, the parts, or the different lengths from having to cut off the heat damaged parts. I figured if the locs were going to be permanent, then I should be happy with the outcome, which I wasn't. It took a long twelve hours to comb out each and every one of those locs.

After combing out the locs, I was happy to be back with my loose hair, but then quickly reminded of why I decided to loc in the first place. I soon became bored and tired of doing my hair and decided I needed a change. My hair had definitely grown, but still had a LOT of heat damaged strands. I debated between cutting my hair, to coloring it, to highlighting it, to doing another big chop.

Around 4 weeks after combing out the locs, I decided to chop about 4-5 inches off my hair. I unfortunately don't have any pics of that first chop either, but it was around the length of my hair on my first nappiversary. I was wearing it in coils most of the time since it was the easiest thing to do that didn't require much of my time. Two weeks later I decided to highlight my hair.

The pictures in this album are how my hair is doing from then til now. I'm currently growing my hair back out but trying to keep it as healthy as possible. I've adopted a new regimen and put myself on a protective style challenge for a loooooooooooooong time. I'm shooting for a year and a half, but I'll take it month by month and allow myself a couple of out days here and there.

Month 2
Hey ladies! Thanks for all the advice and compliments I've received since starting this new journey, within the natural journey! I haven't had much time to take pics, but I did take some.

I've changed my routine a little bit. I'm still using Jane Carter products, but I've decided to wash and retwist every two weeks instead of every 3 to 4 weeks. My scalp was itching so bad and I don't want to end up with a lot of buildup! I know that twisting w/ every wash is not so good, but when my locs have matured some more then I can go back to twisting every 4 weeks or so, but right now when I wash, I have to twist, unless I decide to freeform which is not happening!

I've started combining some of my locs because it's clear that they will be too thin by the time they start to mature, and I've had to two strand twist some of them so that they can start the locing process. I'm still loving my locs as they progress. I'm seeing a lot of budding and I'm excited to see how they grow and mature!

Starter Locs and month 1
(Jun 1, 2010)
This is my attempt at finding the right size and number of locs I wanted to have.

I decided to start my locs as finger coils and maintain them by palm rolling. I will be using Jane Carter Products to start.

While my locs are babies, my regimen will be:
*Shampoo every 3-4 weeks
*Condition with a Spray leave-in conditioner (until locs mature)
*Retwist and palm roll w/every shampoo
*Spray leave-in and oil hair and scalp every few days (or as needed...my hair holds moisture well)
*apply astringent to scalp once a week
*wrap at night or while I'm home with a satin scarf

What i'm currently using
(Jan 1, 2010)
These are products that I plan on using for the rest of the year. I'm trying to start using all natural products with no sulphates, petrolatum, mineral oil, parabens, cones or any of that other bad stuff for your hair.

Two of my products aren't completely natural, but I will try to phase them out as I start using all natural products. I've been having issues with my scalp being itchy and dry, but once I get rid of all the bad products, I should be ok.
