Year Three of My Napptural Journey (July 10 through July 11)
(Jul 24, 2010)
This has been a frustrating year for me! :(
My hair is going through a weird phase. IT'S NOT GROWING. This is reallllllly upsetting to me, because I really thought by now, I'd be at APL or at least past SL, which I'm not. Or at least make a puff with ease, which I can't. I'm a little put off. So I'll be babying my hair like CRAZY, whenever its not in a protective style.

However, I've found some products my hair responds to. Suave Professionals (Almond & Shea Butter) and One N' Only Argan Oil Moisture Repair Shampoo and Condish. (Though, the actual oil is awful.) But neither keep my hair feeling moisturized all day.

So as far as daily moisture, I've been trying the W-O-C(?) technique that I saw on a NaturalChica video. (To seal moisture, first use something water-based, then oil based, then cream-based. More specific info in the very first pic of this album). I hope that when I find the perfect combination, I'll have well-moisturized hair all day long. :) !@! That'll be a challenge for the spring.

I also think I'm going to try treating my scalp and new growth- alternating each week. Those are never things I normally focused on. I think maybe starting will be helpful. Then doing a DC at the end of the month- for my scalp, new growth and ends.

I've still yet to find a good product for curl-popping either. ;) Or anything that makes my twists/braids/hairstyles look smooth and neat while keeping them moisturized. Because they still look like a four-year-old did it. (Not insulting the skills of a four year old!!!) I need to work on my styling big time.

I LOVE EXPERIMENTING!!
(Jul 24, 2008)
Notes so far:

***I'm teaching myself how to braid, cornrow, etc. Its so fun! I've been using my sister's doll to practice. XD
***I've been on a NO oil routine, because all the oils I've used just make my hair feel oily.
***Trying a NO-routine helped, but after a week or so, didnt prove faithful. Or at least not my method. I got product build-up faster than normal due to my condish leave-ins, which I did once or twice a day. Using them made my hair feel more "coated" than "moisturized", so I should probably try finding a REAL moisturizer/leave-in.
***I EXPERIMENT TOO MUCH! :O; Trying pre-pooing and baggie methods!

My hair does NOT like:
perms!!! >:P
hard water
flat-irons
combing/picking
heavy oils

My hair DOES like:
glycerin
leave in-let dry-rinse out treatments :)
baking soda
water?

Year One of My Napptural Journey (July 08 through July 09)
(Jul 24, 2008)
The beginning of my napptural journey. :)

Notes so far:
***I'M SO GLAD I CAN GET MY HAIR WET!!!
***I like being able to go through my hair and not have half of it come out.
***Coils coils cooooooils!!!
***My hair tangles like CRAZY!! I need to detangle like, every day or something. Haha.

~My Regime~
***Its been pretty loose lately. I wash once a week. Protein treatment twice a month. No-poo occasionally. I need to start throwing in a DC somewhere. Hmmm.

~Typing~
***According to Andre's system... I dunno, but I'm leaning towards 4a with my coffee-stirrer coils. All the rest? 4b? 3c? 4c? 1a??? XD; Not quite sure yet! I'll find out when it gets longer.
***Also, please don't feel the need to type my hair for me (with the exception of the few photos I have asking for others opinions).
Thanks in advance!! :)

My Hair Story and Permie Days
Like many others, I'd been getting perms since I was very young and never thought about what it was doing to my hair... or thought about it at all. My mom told me my hair grew very fast, so I had to get perms every fours weeks or it would break- and that was life. I never thought about NOT getting perms because it was never an option in my mind. Just liking brushing your teeth, putting on my glasses every morning and going to school, perms were just another part of life. And I didn't think about it as anything more than that.

The longest my hair had ever gotten was to my shoulders. But after that, it was length full of split ends. So I had to get it all cut off. I wore a boycut, until my hair grew back out. Sometimes, my beautician would curl it into an updo and I looked like a grandma. When my hair grew back almost past my ears, it began to break again and I went to the faux bun, so I could retain length and not have to deal with breakage for awhile. But a few months after I took it out of the bun, I was experiencing breakage again. It was like I couldn't get away from it.

There was nothing I liked about my hair. My mother and hairdresser always told me that I was caring for it wrong, which was why it was so unhealthy, but even when I did do everything they said- oily it daily, comb it out, vary the parts, etc- it still broke. I hated having sticky, oily hair. I hated how messy it always was and that I could never get it wet. I hated that my hair wasn't naturally flowy like hair of all the other race. Because of this, I started to hate my heritage and deeply wished I was born into a different one.

A year later, I finally got tired of my hair and I looked online for something new. I ran into Nappturality and Fotki and I fell in love with natural hair. It took me a couple of weeks to convince myself that that was the path I wanted to take, but I did, and I haven't regretted it. I've learned to accept the way God made us and I'm set on letting my natural hair grow and flourish naturally. My only wish is that I could've done it sooner.

Variety is God's gift to earth. :)

An embarrassment to Nappturals everywhere.
(Jul 8, 2008)
Trying to get a fro with permed hair (a method that I now know is called a braid-out).... wasnt exactly successful... for a number of reasons. XDDD;
