- Old Photos of the Ouseburn Parks?
- (Aug 1, 2008)
- I have mixed feelings on pictures being converted into sepia or "old photos", but I thought that some of the old structures in these parks could be suitable subjects as they are old buildings after all! I would be most interested in your opinions on the results!

- Jesmond Dene Part 3 and Paddy Freeman's Park
- (Jul 24, 2008)
- Completing our walk through Jesmond Dene, we then walk through the popular Paddy Freeman's Park. Patrick (Paddy) Freeman was a tenant farmer who arrived from Gateshead in 1795, but following Sir William Armstrong's enclosure of the land in 1862, the family moved away. Although he never owned the land, for some reason the park was named after him!
NB: This is the last in a series of 5 albums. To enjoy the walk through the parks, please start with the album "Heaton Park" and work through them ending with this one!!

- Jesmond Dene Part 1
- (Jul 24, 2008)
- In 1835 wealthy industrialist Sir William Armstrong built Jesmond Dean House for himself and aquired adjacent land which he enclosed and transformed into his garden. Mostly under the direction of Lady Armstrong waterfalls and grottos were built and exotic species planted.. By 1870 Armstrong was spending more time at Cragside, his country home near Rothbury, Northumberland and in 1883 he donated the dene to the citizens of Newcastle. It was opened officially by the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1884.

- Armstrong Park
- (Jul 24, 2008)
- Armstrong park was laid out during the 18th century to enhance Heaton Hall and bought by industrialist Sir William Armstrong in the 19th century. In contrast to Jesmond Dene, the planting is mainly native. By 1878 he was already admitting the general public to his park and in 1880 he donated it to the city.

- Heaton Park
- (Jul 24, 2008)
- This park is part natural, with many tree lined pathways, and part formal in the style of many British parks laid out in the second half of the 19th century. The city purchased the land for the park from local landowner Addison Potter for £12,562 in 1879, quite a sum for those days, and it was opened by Mayor Alderman Thomas Robinson in 1880.

- The Garden in July 2008
- (Jul 22, 2008)
- We have summer weather at last, and the garden is at it's most colourful! After weeding, cutting back overgrown bushes and general tidying up, I took some photos!
