I Big Chopped My Hair - April 30th, 2010
(Apr 30, 2010)
Well I finally did the Big Chop. About a year ago, I wrote a blog on LHCF that I will be big chopping my hair pretty soon and I finally did it. I cannot believe I didn't do it until a whole year later tough, lol.

My stylist was playing cute with it saying that she doesn't think I should take it all off yet, but I insisted that she did. Well after she blew it out, and trimmed it, she braided it back up in four braids and slapped my wig back on because I had to get back to work and didn't have time to fix it up any better than that.

Well I got home and unravelled the plaits and was about to gel it up to wear as a cute little 'fro for work tomorrow and low and behold, the whole top of my head were straight strands of hair sticking up. Guess what I did? You guessed right, I got my pair of scissors and began taking the rest of the straight ends all off.

I am now wearing it twisted until tomorrow morning but I am not so sure yet how I will wear it. I may wear it in a twist-out or I may slap my wig right back on my head. I'll just have to see in the morning. Well I am fully natural right now but don't get too excited because I will be texlaxing it again either in October this year or in January 2011 as originally planned.

I'm just happy I got to see what my natural hair really looks like again. I actually like it. I only decided to make a blog of it as a reminder to myself when I actually chopped off my relaxed ends.

The pics you see here are an unravelling of my hair, dampened and a little Fantascia IC gel on the ends. I do like how it looks so I might wear this look for a while.

My Texlax Mixture & Hair Journey 2009
(Jan 22, 2009)
I decided to transition to texlaxed hair today. I was 12 weeks post and decided impulsively that I wanted my hair to have a little more texture in it so I texlaxed my hair today. I TRIMMED IT ON THE 23RD OF JANUARY 2009. First things first - I covered my previous relaxed hair with Design Essentials pre-relaxer protectant and 5 minutes later - I texlaxed.

Here is what I did. I took about:
8-9oz of Mizani Butter Blend relaxer (mild strength, lye)
added 3 tablespoons of Silk Amino Acid
and 3 tablespoons of grapeseed oil and mixed well until blended.

Then I applied it to my roots beginning in my most resistent area (ie, my crown area) and worked my way to the edges all around, front and rear. I worked it through for a total of 12-14 minutes including application time. I never use a comb to pull my relaxer through, I simply work it in with my fingers only.

Finally I wash it out, apply a 5 minute protein treatment, rinse again and proceed to neutralizing my hair about 4-5 times but the last time I leave the neutralizing poo on for a period of 8-10 minutes. When I wash this out I deep condition and style as usual.

UPDATE:
I was not aiming for bone straight hair but then I didn't want to leave too much texture in my hair either. I mixed this just right because my hair came out exactly how I wanted it to.

I noticed just before I put on the neutralizing poo, that my hair felt bone straight but right after applying it, it's like the neutralizer stopped the processing of my hair dead in it's tracks and my soft curlies were back. I loved it!

I know that I will have to make sure I keep up with my protein treatments to keep the demarcation line really strong. I have my beloved Duo Tex protein conditioner now so I will be using that maybe once a week to every 10 days or so. I have other protein conditioners I will be using as well though. I will post an update pic of how it came out later too.
