- I turned that milestone age of 30 on the 20th of February and I must say I am wiser and more comfortable in my own skin than ever before!! To commemorate my 30th birthday and my 1 year anniversary I thought I would straighten, length check, and clean up my ends. I will probably do two months of protective style maintence because my hair has been a little over worked this month. Enjoy!!

| | - January: One Year Nappsiversary
- Happy New Year naturals!! January 10th marked my one year anniversary as a natural. What I have learned about my hair and myself has been profound and I thank each and every one of you for your comments, support, and advise. I know I could not have done it without you!! This year I want to focus on keeping my hair healthy and strong as it grows out. I also managed to lose 68lbs last year and will be starting a weight-loss journal for support and advise as I carve off those last 25-30lbs.
This album features updos and braid-outs: styles that I have fell in love with since my hair has grown out. As always comments, criticisms, and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

| | - November: Mini Twists Revisted
- I decided to revisit the mini-twists that I wore in April before I put my hair in braid extensions for the rest of the year. I twisted pretty small sections of hair and braided the roots of the first two front rows. I wore them pinned up primarily and rocked it for two weeks (a record for me)!! I just put braid extensions in the weekend November 21st and hope to make them last at least 6 weeks!!

| | - September/October 2009: BraidOuts, Twists, Updo's & Frustration . . . .
- Although my hair is growing nicely and I am loving the new natural styles that I have been able to achieve, I have been noticing some problems! I am seeing a lot of breakage: little short hairs showing up in the sink and on my shoulders after detangling. I have been consistently using my strengtheners (Infusium 23, deep conditions) and moisturizers (conditioners, braid spray, shea butter), but the breakage still persists. Plus, my ends look terrible!! The healthy shead hair that I do notice even has multiple splits on the ends!! I havent trimmed my hair AT ALL since my big chop in January . . . and my ends are looking pretty bad. Not to mention I have been doing a lot less protective styling in September and October . . manipulating my hair into ponytails, braidouts, and twists almost every week!.
So its time to take a much needed break: time to get back to basics and give my hair some much needed TLC. I feel like I have really gotten away from the regimine and from everything that has helped me achieve so much success with my hair!! So in response Im going to stretch my hair with some braids on dry hair, spend a few hours going thru my hair and cleaning up my ends, then its time to braid up for the rest of the year! Not really sure if there will be many updates during this time since my hair will be protective styled, but I love my Fotki sistas and will definately be checking up on your progress!! You guys give me inspiration and motivation!! Love ya ; ) !!

| | - August: Livin' & Lovin' Life As A Natural
- This month I finally rocked my first braid-outs!! . . .Now I am hooked. . . they are much easier to put in ( I just do about 9-10 large plats all over my head) and braid-outs dont shrink up as much as twist-outs . . . I think I found my new signature style!!
I will probably braid up at the end of August to give my hair a much needed rest . . . until then, enjoy!!
P.S.: I would like to thank each and every one of you who find time to leave a comment, question or suggestion. I feels sooo good to know that there are thousands ( I am sure millions) of us out there who are just loving ourselves just the way we are!! I do apologize that I cannot respond to each and every comment, but I always, always answer each and every question! . . . HHG

- I love, love, love Austin, TX. You rarely find a city with so many different walks of life, but Austin has it all. I really didnt want to make my hair the focus of my trip, so I didnt find time to do any twist outs or significant styles. . .mostly ponytails and the like . .

- At only 5 months natural I found myself in an unexpected style rut! Don't get me wrong I do love my twist outs . . .but there has to be more to natural hair. In this album I feature some micro twists, goddess twists and more! . . . . I am really learning a lot about natural hair and I am trying my hardest to stay the course and not get bored with my hair!! Happy Hair Growing!!
