- I've been wearing buns for years, but I've always used a foam chignon which was drying out and pulling my ends. I used hairpins to secure. I covered my chignon with a satiny trouser sock to protect my hair from drying out. Instead of using pins, I just tucked and secured with a scrunchie (my long lost friend!)
