- I know I said I was going to have a break from heat but I decided to flat iron my hair just because! I'm now definitely on a break from heat until my hair is hip length.... i think that will be my ultimate goal then I'll maintain from there.
I am currently waiting for my hair dresser to come back from Jamaica so i can get my full head weave done. i've wanted it done since July and she being on holiday was one of the reasons i decided to flat iron my hair.
HOWEVER
I have a flaky scalp in the summer. My sister has it too and this really did cause some problems! By the third day of having straight hair my scalp literally full of the biggest flakes ever. It was beyond dandruff because i had only washed my hair 3 days earlier. As soon as I washed my hair and went back to doing the GHE my scalp had no problems> Any suggestions why??
I also henna'd my hair again and have decided that i'm not really a fan of henna ONLY BECAUSE of the way it leaves my hair looking straight and heat damaged. I know it loosens your texture but its too much for me. I also know its not heat damage because I cut my hair some time ago and hadn't applied heat to my hair since.... Hmm i also decided to chop off my straight bits after a henna treatment... side eye to henna!
so yea these are the pics! Sorry for the awful picture quality. Its really bad...and the lighting! - Album was created 9 months ago and modified 9 months ago

| | do not take my pics without asking please! | - August Updates!
- (Aug 21, 2011)
- I'm just documenting what I've been doing to my hair since I chopped the damaged ends off!
I have been loving my hair, it's sooo beautiful. I'm still giving my hair a rest from the weave until I go back to university in a few weeks time.
I wore my afro hair out for the first time to church! It was supposed to be a nice twist out but as soon as I walked outside the rare hot London weather dried my hair into a big old dry hot mess. But I still rocked it haaaaaay! LOL
i have been using wigs as my protective style and have been alternating my Jerry curl wig you saw in my July album with my Milkyway saga Cleopatra wig! It's my "I think i'm a grown lady" wig and I just love it!!!l

| | do not take my pics without asking please! | - my little sis hair
- (Jan 7, 2010)
- this is Nathania, (her nickname is Nathan or Naty)
she is 9 and has 4b THICK hair like mine. The poor thing hates having her hair done- she doesn't even allow people to touch it! these pics are taken on the rare days she gets her hair done, but she HATES IT!!
***** nathania is 11 now and her and my mum just got back from Ghana yesterday (07/01/2010) and you'll never guess what my mum did... NATHANIA'S HAIR IS NOW TEXTURIZED. i'm not saying that its a bad thing, but my mum just got fed up. Nathania went to a Ghanaian salon who knew NOTHING about afro hair, so they washed her hair without detangling it and put it under the dryer without detangling it conditioner or anything. Her hair was so tangled that when my mum came to the shop (my cousin took her) my mum got mad and demanded that they do something to her hair. When they tried to comb it she screamed so much, so they suggested the hair softener texturiser. her hair is in braids now so i'll post pics when she takes them out - Album was created 4 years 1 month ago and modified 10 months ago

| | do not take my pics without asking please! | - Update of my hair, setbacks and moving on!!!
- (Jul 14, 2011)
- Just to tell you all that has been going on with my hair.
I had heat damage in my hair from when I flat ironed my hair this time last year (2010 flat iron) and I was in obvious denial about it! I did my usual full head weave and kept it on for 5months but during the time I kept on thinking about the damage.
When I finally took out my hair I came to to the conclusion that it is NO longer about length but health. So many people are scared to cut their hair when they need to but deep down we all know that we have the potential to grow our hair to great lengths.
So I cut the front of my hair off!!! there are 2inch pieces, 5inch pieces 7inch pieces... I don't care!!! They might even grow into a really nice fringe (bang as my American sisters call it lol)
My hair did actually reach to full WL and was grazing HL but the ends had to go! Unfortunately I couldn't take any back pics because my sister wasn't there to help me :( but I'm a child of God so please trust my judgement LOL. I was just so impatient that I couldn't wait for my sister to come back I just started cutting. Those damaged pieces were like 3b and they made my hair look so thin.
I've learnt my lesson with heat and I know exactly what I did wrong that made me have this setback. My hair can straighten with less heat but I was more concerned with having straight hair for my prom. Oh well lesson learnt.
I am now doing a no heat challenge for a year and a bit which started in February. I have also decided to extend my hair goal. I want my hair to be BSL without straightening it. A bra strap length afro....pray for me!!!
So here are the pictures and I will be getting my weave on the 25th July 2011 ETA: I'm going to get my weave done sometime in August. My hair is enjoying the rest from weaves too much!! - Album was created 10 months ago and modified 10 months ago

| | do not take my pics without asking please! | - THE WEAVE DEBATE!!!
- (Jan 14, 2011)
- Ok ladies I know I have not put up my usual December pics up..but there is a reason why!!!
So one day I was lurking on a topic called, 'Do any of you ladies agree with Shima about hair can't grow with weaves?' (6th Jan 2010) and this quote came up by a lady who said...'I don't think hair grows to it's optimum potential w/ weaves.' Since I have such amazing progress with leaving my weaves in for 5/6 months at a time, I decided to do an experiment to see if what this lady was saying was actually true.
I started this challenge since July 2010 while my hair was flat ironed and i will finish the challenge in July 2011.
Now what I'm doing is a big thing for me because I BELIEVE wholeheartedly that weaves helped me retain all the length I have and I could easily have reached my goal if I stuck it out with weaves. However I'm a tiny bit fed up of how people bash weaves, so I wanted to prove that if I didn't wear weaves my hair won't reach it's optimum growth. obviously these are some honest results because I ain't gonna jack up my hair to prove myself right!!
So here's my journey
July- my real hair August-Sept- twist out with braids (pick and drop) October-December- crochet braids December to Jan- Lace front wig Jan-Feb-Crochet braids Feb- natural twists
look under the pics as they document what happens to my hair during this process.
VERDICT!!!
My hair has stayed the exact length because I am not retaining any length. Weaves for me are the best for retention and it also saves me ALOT of money because I don't need to keep buying hair and more products. Weaves just seem to be the best thing for me to be honest and as you have seen. I think the problem with people is that they don't tell the stylist what they want. My weave stylist and I ALWAYS fight because i want to protect my hair and she just wants the weave to look good... she don't care about my edges or anything. You always have to be persistent to ensure that your hair is under the best conditions underneath a good looking weave. If everyone was able to that people wouldn't be so quick to knock weaves as much!
As soon as my primary school is on vacation (I'm a teaching assistant!) in Feb I'm getting a weave and then it will be 100% BACK TO BASICS from here!
Hope this helped someone!!! - Album was created 1 year 4 months ago and modified 1 year 3 months ago

| | do not take my pics without asking please! | - Back2Basics!!!
- its coming up to three years since I first started my hair journey and I truly thank God for showing me that with faith I could do what I thought was impossible. But lately I've been doing a lot of thinking. It seems that my hair is now suffering from 'celebrity syndrome' and now its got where it wants to be, I have forgotten and left behind all the products/techniques that helped my hair get to where it is now. They were all good products but I think they all got left behind because of laziness or because I replaced them with the new products that the hair boards raved about. so now, as the title hints, i'm going back to the basics. Vitamins were what made my hair really healthy and strong. Weaves were my perfect protective style that grew my hair and made it thicker. No direct heat strengthened my hair and prevented my ends from breaking. Air drying protected my hair from heat. Taking my time with my hair made my hair journey exciting. Even though I am using some of the products/techniques from when I started my hair journey, i will still be using the recent products that i have come to love.
So what is the next chapter with my hair journey??? I think that I was putting too much emphasis of growing my hair to waist length by the end of this year that my hair journey was no longer fun. I think that's why many of my hair inspirations when i first started my hair journey are no longer on fotki. So now I have stopped wearing the lace fronts, washing my hair every second and I'm going to allow my hair to just do its thing. So God willing, I will be doing my hair every school term (Now/ October, December, February, April 2011) Because I am working in a primary (elementary) school, my 16inch weaves are impractical so I use synthetic curly hair which lasts for about 2months. After June 2011 i will be going back to my 16inch straight hair that i love.
I will also be focusing on my edges because they are in a critical condition after i had crochet braids with weave at the back. it ripped out the front of my hair!!! So now I'm going to go into great detail as to what i am going to do: NB- b2b= products i first used in my hair journey
October 2010- i have been treating my hair like a Queen!!! _ did a hot oil treatment/pre poo with amla oil, neem oil (it stinks so bad!) and rosemary oil. Plait my hair in six braids (my hair came out sooo soft!!) *b2b* _washed my hair with Infusium 23 *b2b* shampoo and Dr Bronners castile soap in peppermint and almond- all diluted with water. _conditioned my hair with a VO5 mix (herbal escapes strengthening conditioner, herbal escapes, clarifying conditioner, moisture milks passion fruit smoothie and champagne kiss.) left that on overnight. my hair felt like butter when i washed it out! _NEXT DAY_ -washed my hair with dr bronners castile soap in peppermint _ conditioned with doo grow mega thick intense repair and added IC polisher in it *b2b* left it on overnight _NEXT DAY_ _washed out the doo grow conditioner _ deep conditioned with Le kair chloresterol plus *b2b* mixed with motions moisture plus, the VO5 conditioners, peppermint and jojoba oil *b2b* and IC polisher (the cones make detangling much easier) _take out one braid at a time, detangle and braid it up again _steam hair for 45mins *b2b* _rinse out then do a final rinse with apple cider vinegar and water _ moisturise hair with ORS olive oil moisturising creme *b2b* _ air dry overnight *b2b* _NEXT DAY_ _ braid hair, when dry, for weave _ put megatek on my edges *b2b* and wild growth oil on my partings and on my edges. _ weave my hair into desired style.
It seems a lot but I aint going to be doing anything to my hair, besides moisturising my edges, until the end of December so I think it's needed. Also i am now taking vitamins again daily. (hopefully i will not be lazy!) these are what i am taking:
_Bassetts soft and chewy everyday multi vitamins (1 a day) _Boots A-Z multivitamin (1a day) *b2b* _Boots omega 3, 6 And 9 (1 a day) *b2b* _Chlorella (6 a day)
Also, because i was using quite a bit of heat since my july reveal, my ends have gone quite thin so i have cut about 2-3inches off my ends. I cut about 1-2 inches in June also. Usually I would have been devastated to have cut so much in the space of a few months but i love even hair. Thin ends would not do because they look so horrible and make your hair unhealthy, especially if your hair is thick. Now its all about health instead of length.
OK this is everything that i will be doing, God willing, until june next year! Hope this helps and this gives you an indication of when i will be doing updates... although they will be small ones because I like doing my big updates every 6 months!
sorry for the essay and HHG
