Spring 2012
Hey y’all! Thought it is about time to update on my natural hair. As of April 1st, 2012, I’ve had natural hair for roughly 3.5 years. When I first cut my relaxer off in oh, 2008, I never thought I would let my hair grow out. I really just wanted to have short hair, and initially, I loved everything about it. I loved the convenience, the lack of time I spent taking care of it, and more than anything I loved being able to get up and go! After a few months, my hair began to noticeable show some length, and then I wondered how long I could grow out my hair. 3 years later, I absolutely cannot imagine NOT having natural hair.

n terms of products I use, I’m a woman of habit. I pretty much know which products to use to keep my hair soft and moisturized, but the wild card has always gone to shampoos because of my scalp condition. When I think I’ve gotten it figured out and deviate to try something else, the itching and scalp flareups would come right back. For the last 10 months, I’ve used the same shampoo and deviated once because I ran out. Instead of going to buy some more, I used the remainder of my Kinky Curly Come Clean. Well, that was a desaster, and never again. As for my current rotation, I use:

Shampoo: Shea Moisture Curl Coconut & Hibiscus Shampoo
Conditioner: Rotate Aubrey Organics GBP & Honeysuckle Rose
Leave-In Conditioner: Kinky Curly Knot Today
Sealant: Urioma Hair Care Hair Butter

I really like all of these products especially Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus line because my hair gets clean, stays soft, looks and smells great. Every two months I go out and repurchase my hair staples from Target & Whole Foods, which costs me around $45. Not bad considering I never go to a salon, and style/handle my hair on my own. So that’s all folks! Looking forward to the next three months. Since I’m planning my time in Uganda, I’m tempted to braid my hair up with extensions to save on maintenance time, but think I will just continue to wear twists and wait until I’m in Uganda to have my hair done.

Summer 2011
This summer marks three complete years that I have been natural, and honestly, I cannot even IMAGINE not being natural. My natural hair is just as much a part of who I am as my legs, my arms, and my eyes. In these three short years I have learned quite a bit, have undoubtedly made a few mistakes, but in it all I have loved every single second of it.

This summer is just like all the others- blazing hot, packed with social activities, and I have very little time for my hair. Thankfully, I have my 'hair routine' down lock! The piscky scalp situation I had last year is nonexistent (which reminds me I need do document what worked for me) and as long as I wash and treat my hair once every week, things remain the same.

Wash: Organix Coconut Shampoo
Condition: Organix Coconut Conditoner w/ EVOO
ACV Rinse
Leave-in: KCKT
Sealer: Whipped Shea Butter.
*oil scalp with vatika oil
*monthly bentonite clay (must!)

Thank you again for everyone who comes to my page, and who comments and leaves me encouraging words. This time three years ago, I perused fotki for endless hours, completely at awe and inspired by all the beautiful, thick, and healthy natural hair. I 'friended' a few fotki ladies, and by the next week I had cut off my hair because I too wanted to have healthy natural hair. Thank you for continuing to inspire me!
