1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL R-Code
For many years, starting in 1959, the Ford Galaxie was a mainstay in Ford's full-sized lineup. In the early sixties Ford embarked on a Total Performance program that made Ford a winner in NASCAR, at the Indy 500, and at the 24 Hours of LeMans. The car shown here, a 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 XL is powered by the legendary R-Code dual quad 406 V8. The semi-fastback "scatback" roofline was a mid-year introduction to give the car improved aerodynamics on NASCAR's super speedways like Daytona and in 1963 Ford drivers made the NASCAR super speedways their private playgrounds. This Galaxie 500 XL was not only equipped with the 406 V8 but with bucket seats, a four-speed manual transmission, and in this case a factory-installed AM/FM radio. 1964 Porsche 904 GTS coupe
In 1963, about the same time as the legendary Porsche 911 road car was introduced, Porsche embarked on a racing program built around the Porsche 904 GTS, it's first mid-engined race car and designed to compete in international road racing in the under 2-liter class. This Porsche 904 GTS is the car car built in the series and caries chassis number 904-002 as shown on the data plate, photo number 2. This car is unique in that it has short doors that terminate halfway down the side of the body. This car was originally built with long doors that cut into the lower part of the body. It is speculated that the change was made at some point in the late 1960s, possibly at the behest of designer Butzi Porsche. This Porsche 904 GTS also features a full leather interior making it exceptionally unique among the Porsche 904 series. All images copyright 2010 by Richard Truesdell and automotivetraveler.com, all rights reserved. 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
The Chevy Camaro Z/28 was introduced in 1967 to be Chevy's entry into the Trans-Am racing series. With it's 302-cubic-inch small block V8 it was a terror on the street, track and drag strip. This particular Chevy Camaro Z/28 was featured in the July 2010 issue of Chevy Enthusiast available at www.chevyenthusiast.com These photos are out takes from the April 2010 studio photo session for the cover of the July issue of Chevy Enthusiast and features Courtney Day (www.courtneyday.com) who helped me duplicate some classic Chevy advertising shots from the Camaro's first generation.
