Forum
The other main street in Ostia is the Cardo, which is the north-south axis. The Forum -- the city center -- is where the Cardo intersects the Decumanus, These shots begin by walking along the Cardo to the Forum, with some diversions along the way.

Main Street
Once you enter the main city gate you are on the Decumanus Maximus, Ostia's main avenue with the main commercial and civic buildings.

Necropolis
Outside the main city gate is the necropolis with the tombs of wealthy Ostians. You could easily spend all day wandering here and never even make it inside the city!

Via Diana
Via Diana is a side-street parallel to the Decumanus Maximus (Ostia's Main St.). We visited 3 awesome buildings: the Thermopolium (the local bar/tavern), the House of Diana, and the House of Jove and Ganymede. We could go inside this building and actually climb to the third floor, from which we had a great roof-top view of this quarter of Ostia.

Medieval village
Just outside the ruins of the Roman city is the medieval village that was built in the 15th century around the castle. Several of the buildings on the wall are operated as a wonderful inn--Rodrigo de Vivar--which is where we stayed. Highly recommended!
