- Snatched one of these newly tooled "Special Edition" (absolutely awesome!) kits at a local hobby store and believe it or not, was actually gonna do it box stock- but my goodness that didn't last but a minute or two! Of all the builds I've started on, detailed parts I've worked on and have sitting around, hardware & fittings and whatnot I had on hand, decided to toss some of 'em into this monster and go for a true mega-detail build! I don't think I'm actually using ANY parts out of the Nova kit other than the body and part or two of the chassis! Oh, btw- cutting the doors and trunk lid off? d-a-n-g that took some time! This body's super thick. Definitely gonna be a parts box special when it's done~**~ Follow along! If you'd like to watch it in progress, please just bookmark this- http://public.fotki.com/carmad1957/whats-on-da-bench/ and let's see what this beast ends up as!

| | | - the "rattler" railer
- Here we go on a F/E dragster and with a few donated parts- (thanks Dave!) I'm hoping this baby rakes me in a ribbon at the up-coming IPMS meet here in the 'burgh this coming September. So, follow along as we journey into......the abyss. OK, so maybe I'm exaggerating a little with the abyss thing there, but I'm hopin' this monstrosity will be one for 'da books. Pretty much wingin' it & just taking it nice and slooow. Definitely going for my 1st mega-detail build here and there sure ain't no turnin back now so here we go!

| | | - my Pinto asphalt modified monstrosity
- There were a lotta mods to this rascal from beginning to end, and for my first try at a "modified" asphalt racer.....gotta say I'm real pleased with it! This kinda build just seems to suit me- that "built-on-a-shoestring-budget" kinda thing- I just love it! Lots of aluminum sheeting, all kinds of room for mods, it was just a freakin blast to do I have to admit~ Thinking I might have found a new love!

| | | - the Weekend Warrior
- A few pics of the weekend warrior Willys as it went along. "Earl" and I wrenched this car from a SW&C drag model kit and it was not only my first "mod/bash" attempt, but also a dam blast to do! And believe it or not, it took 1st place and best in automotive at the Pittsburgh Hobbytown Spring '07 Show! Tried to give it that "made-in-the-backyard on a shoestring budget" look. A builder friend suggested calling the project "Lookin' for a Sponsor" so it stuck! The 55 Ford pickup that will haul this car to the track was my first "truck" attempt so kept my fingers crossed throughout but it turned out a-ok I guess. Thanks for peeking and as usual, any comments you have please lemme know- any input is very much appreciated~**~

| | | - my first Pro Sporstman build
- Fred Flintstone and I started this build back in the prehistoric era but believe it or not, it's finally done! A '57 or a '55?....hummmm~ Took a while to decide but went with the '57 body for one simple reason... it just looks lean, mean and and good 'ol bad to the bone! So yes, the rumors are true. "Earl" and the gang got busy in the garage once again, but this time they were brainstorming on a pretty damm mean '57 Pro Sportsman. They didn't have much money to through around (as usual) and certainly no Corporate sponsors or any help of that sort so we just hoped they could pull this one off with the bucks (and change) they had in thier pockets. Quite a few mods, additions and real attention to detail ideas were in the works for this one from day one and had a lotta parts boxes and various pieces out! This build was started, torn down and re-started numerous times to get this finished car that I hoped for....which was a piece I'd have NO fear laying down on any show table around.Did I achieve that? You gotta be the judge of that one! And if your opinion I failed, it sure wasn't from a lack of trying!! Thanks for peeking and as always- would love to hear your input or comments!

| | | - the Shirley Muldowney railer- one that never existed!
- Started fumbling with this railer project for a summertime "build-off" contest but lost interest for a while. I've loved these nasty top fuelers for as long as I can remember and was always intrigued by Cha-Cha Muldowney, so this car's an '08 build of what yours truly thinks her first railer would have looked like....had she built it today that is! After learning that these large scale kits are soon gonna be history....decided to give this 16th dragster idea my last hoo-rah! The beast even took 1st in drag class at the Three Rivers Tri State show in March '08 here in Pittsburgh! Went for for my cleanest, most detailed build to date, all polished finishes and as much scratch building and mods as I could pull off on this. Thought a "modern day" build of a nostalgic year dragster would be cool so here she is! Started over with a combination of several parts box pieces & these 2 kits. She ever drove a car like this one? I don't think so, but you can be sure that if yours truly would ever have had a say in it, this is exactly what it would have looked like!!

| | | - My early stuff
- Hey...not like I'm all that proud of 'em but we all gotta start somewhere eh?! These were my "builds" during my first six months or so into this wonderful hobby and they ALL made their way into different part boxes in a hurry....but not one of them to ever be forgotten! Each build I do is a learning experience and I enjoy building more and more with each project I complete. The one thing these early builds are definitely responsible for is getting me forever hooked! Thanks for looking and please....don't be TOO cruel!! Comments/Suggestions? E-Mail me at

| | | - 55 Ford pick-up...the Willys hauler
- Here she be- the 55~ Decided that this truck might be a better hauler than a rusted up beater for the weekend-warrior Willys. I mean after all, if "Earl" could afford to buld a bad-to-the-bone Willys like his weekend warrior, he'd have a killer truck too! With the exception of the crappy paint job (gotta love that orange peel!) it turned out ok. This build was before I practiced any painting skills or clearcoats, wetsanding, polishing, etc so not all that bad I guess~**~ A few of the mods included: the oak slat bed & side boards, drilled brake rotors and h/p calipers and I loved the kit wheels so they stayed! The two-tone midnight blue and metallic gray paint was a spur of the moment decision made at the paint store but was fairly pleased with it. I did without a doubt enjoy this one! Forgot to add the license plate and a few other little detail items before I snapped these shots, but you get the idea! The detail was average, but I wasn't really after a bright-lighter here....just a kick-azz hauler so "Earl" could get his weekend warrior to the track!
I know it's hard to believe, but this thing took 1st place and Best in Automotive in the Pittsburgh Hobbytown Fall show. Hey, ya just never know do ya? Hope you enjoy! - 9 photo(s) (1 MB)
