Monogram 1934 Dusenberg SJ (Slot Car kit)
(Sep 3, 2009)
This is an ORIGINAL ISSUE (1964) Monogram Dusenberg SJ Slot Car kit that I'm building for a gentleman in Lumberton, NC. This, according to him, is the HOLY GRAIL OF SLOT CAR KITS! And he handed it to me to build? Is he nuts? I'm afraid to touch it, but I'll do my best. Per the customer's orders, the kit is to be built "Like it would have been built back in 1964." So there will be no paint on the body or any other parts except the driver and the plate he sits on. Minimum clean-up of mold lines, and no filling of molding flaws, which are amazingly few for a kit from 1964. The original chrome is bright, and the Blue plastic body (And all the other parts) are like brand new. He paid $400 for this kit almost a decade ago, and can't build it due to arthritic fingers, so he was sent my way. This should be a very easy build, the parts count is low, and there's very little painting. I plan on polishing the (Aftermarket) brass rims, and polishing up the plastic body to get a good shine out of it. Now wish me luck, if I screw this up, he'll skin me alive and feed me to the sharks! LOL

1970 Torino Cobra
(Aug 30, 2009)
This one's from Revell, and it's being painted, then sent off to Hemi as part of Scale Avenue's first Forum Project. We're doing a kit swap, where you paint a kit, and then send it on to your selected partner for assembly. The paint is all Dupli-Color spray cans, I started off with Silver, faded the Gunmetal on the rear, then masked the body off and laid down the Metalcast Red over the top of both colors. It came out much better than I expected for using spray cans only!

WIP Dodge/GM "Momad"
Here's my tribute to the still-born GM/Chrysler merger that was all over the automotive news a few months back. I actually had this idea years ago, but never got the time to do it. But it fits perfectly now, so why not get it started. I'm starting with Revell's 2006 Magnum kit, and making it into a two door, '57 Nomad style wagon. I'll add the '57 side trim, and vertical bars to the tailgate, and modify the front end so it loses the "truck" nose all the new Dodge products have these days.

2008 Dodge Challenger
(Jun 13, 2009)
AMT's new Dodge Challenger kit, essentially a promo that was put on the market to beat Revell to the punch. Some good points, and some bad, but overall not too bad for a curbside. Painted House Of Kolors Lemon Yellow, and I added "blade" bumpers to the front and rear fascias to get it to resemble the '70 Challenger. Buy this one only if you need it badly, or wait a few more months for Revell's kit.

Before and After
This is just kits I've customized and the original "stock" kit that was the beginning point. Just a kind of "This is where I started " thing to show you what was done.

2008 Shelby Mustang GT500KR
Revell's excellent new kit, a true joy to build if you don't lose parts like I did. I lost both hood pins (Replaced with some photo-etched ones) and one of the side badges, so they were left off. The only real complaints I have on this kit is the fit and tiny attachment points of the nose piece to the body, and the upper grille is a real pain to get in without a gap around the hood. But the rest of this kit is very well done, the engine and interior are awesome by themselves. I painted this one using House Of Kolors Silver Kandy Base, topped off with 4 coats of House Of Kolors Shimrins Kandy Purple. The decals gave me a few problems (On the back bumper and back edge of the roof), some of the carrier film came off when I applied Miro-Sol to them, so you may want to clear over them to avoid this problem. All in all an excellent kit, grab yourself one!

Concept Charger
It's finally done, it only took nearly two full years. I'm not 100% satisfied with the results (Who ever is?), but I'm done fighting with it. This model started life as Revell's Uptown Charger kit (2006), and changed drastically from there. I started by removing the original roof, and adding one from AMT's 1971 Charger, along with the door shapes from the '71. A new back window opening was made, along with a piece of clear styrene to go into the new opening. Then I stretched the back end out a bit, changed the side window openings to look more like a '73-'74 Charger, and added a grille opening from AMT's 1969 Charger, with a grille from Revell's '69 Charger (Which was supplied by fellow BMC member Brian P). An AMT S-10 Xtreme kit gave up it's chin spoiler, and I made the entire center tail light from a piece of my 1997 Grand Prix's busted tail light. This was to give the back end the "look" of the 1966-67 Chargers. A spoiler was made from acrylic filler, and the wheel openings were shrunk down. Then a Revell Viper kit sacrificed it's engine, and my Shelby Series one (Along with one from fellow Scale Avenue member Tiffany) gave up their cone air filters, and custom tubing was bent for the intakes from solder. After the 7th attempt at painting it Kustom Kolors Purple Passion, I gave up and painted it House Of Kolors Shimrins Tangerine, with a flat black hood and nose. Pegasus Hobbies supplied the rims, new interior panels had to be made for the new two-door configuration, and the chassis plate was stretched out front and rear to fit the new body. New mounting bosses were made to attach the chassis to the body, and photo-etched Charger and R/T scripts, along with the CHARGER lettering on the tail light was added from the Model Car Garage 1967 Charger photo-etched set. To top it all off, I took the side mirror from the '67 photo-etched set, placed it on the quarter panel in front of the spoiler, and called it a gas cap! Enjoy the pictures!
